Diana: Rarities Edition
The big news is of course that Touch Me In The Morning Expanded Edition is released. Shortly after that , on January 5, 2010, Motown is releaseing Diana: Rarities Edition, a rather unnecessary (if I may say so) stand-alone re-release of the second disc of the Diana - Deluxe Edition CD from 2003. Even so, it is indeed a nice compilation of songs, and maybe there's someone out there who doesn't have it. Pre-order it from Amazon.com now. Published December 18, 2009 |

Touch Me In The Morning Expanded Edition
From Hip-O Select: In 1973, Diana Ross was coming off an Oscar® nomination for her searing portrayal of Billie Holiday in the feature film Lady Sings The Blues, a No. 1 album for its soundtrack, and questions about what she might do next. Next was Touch Me In The Morning, a critical and commercial success that featured the No. 1 title track, a blazing return to “pop” form. The songs on Touch Me were reflective of the time: ballads about love lost and found, and classy covers of songs by the Carpenters, Marvin Gaye and John Lennon. The album was a smash, hitting No. 5 Pop and No. 1 on the Soul LP charts. As with so many classic albums, there was more to the story: Touch Me includes songs from other simultaneously recorded projects, as you’ll discover on this new, lovingly produced 2-CD Expanded Edition. When sessions for Touch Me began, Diana Ross had been working on two other albums at the same time: one, Blue, was to be a continuation of the jazz-inflected recordings she inhabited for the Lady Sings projects; the other was To The Baby, a collection of songs honoring her newborn daughter Rhonda. Touch Me In The Morning: Expanded Edition includes a newly remastered version of the original album plus previously unreleased mixes, and a pair of alternate versions of “Touch Me In The Morning” demonstrating Ross’s versatility in the studio. Disc 2 of the Expanded Edition contains the entire To The Baby album, which includes previously unreleased covers of Michael Jackson’s “Got To Be There” and Roberta Flack’s “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” as well as the original title tune, written by Diana’s brother Arthur “T-Boy” Ross. Also newly discovered is the original medley, “Imagine/Save The Children,” two songs that were split for Touch Me, plus alternate original mixes of songs intended for To The Baby that ended up on Touch Me In The Morning, and an alternate mix of “Young Mothers,” which previously had been issued in 1983 on Ross’ Anthology. That’s not all. We’ve added, as an extra special bonus, two songs recorded during the same timeline: “Kewpie Doll,” written and co-produced by Smokey Robinson, and “When We Grow Up,” from Marlo Thomas’ 1972 album Free To Be… You And Me. (In another classic Motown coincidence, this reissue arrives just months after Rhonda, the “baby” for whom the album was originally written, had her first child.) Touch Me In The Morning: Expanded Edition includes a booklet with rare photos and memorabilia, the story behind both albums, and quotes from Ross’s manager Shelley Berger, producer Deke Richards, and from Miss Ross herself. Disc 1 Order from Hip-O Select or Soulmusic.com. Published December 8, 2009 |

The Diana-web.com FORUM is back on-line Hello everybody! I've decided to bring back the Diana-web forum - I missed you guys too much to have it not up and running! I may not always have the time to be as active within the Diana Ross community as I would like to, and being without a job and living in the far-away-from-anything-and-everything-that-is-remotely-connected-to-Diana-Ross-place that Sweden is means I can't afford to see Ms. Ross live in concert or meet with fellow fans from other countries like I once used to. BUT... I can keep diana-web.com running, and I can provide a forum (albeit a simple one) for fellow fans to discuss everything related to our Diva. Head over to the forum and start posting! While I'm here, I'd like to recommend Dick's Diana Ross site for up-to-date news links, pics and comments (such as on the recent Diana Ross concerts in Holland that were a huge success). I also would like to encourage you to send me comments on what you would like to see here on diana-web.com in the future. I will always put my main focus on the discography and on news about CD releases etc, but there's so much more to do... And if you would like to contribute in any way please don't hesitate to contact me - pictures, articles, comments, news... Anything is possible! Mail me at webmaster@diana-web.com. Best wishes, |

It's the same old song - new compilations
Well, seems there is a Diana compilation CD released somewhere in the world every other day. The Complete Collection is a double CD set released in The Netherlands to coincide with the Symphonica in Rosso concerts (see below). The track listing is as follows: Where Did Our Love Go As you can see it covers The Supremes years, as well as the solo Motown and EMI years. But there's nothing new on it. It's out now and can be ordered on import from Amazon.com (click here, link will open in new window). Meanwhile in Japan there are soon two new compilations released in the SHM-CD format (compatible with ordinary CD players the sound is said to be better, but I yet have to notice any difference...). Called Best Selection, there is one Supremes and one Diana compilation released on September 9. The big question mark is a song titled The Children's Hour on the Diana CD. I'm not sure if this is a track listing error or if it's a previously unreleased Diana (and Marvin Gaye) track. Anyone who knows? I'll let you know as soon as I have any information. Update: As suspected it was a track listing error. The track included is You're A Special Part Of Me.

Diana with Symphony Orchestra in the Netherlands SYMPHONICA IN ROSSO 2009 It is with great honour and pleasure to announce the legendary DIANA ROSS will be headlining this years' edition of the succesful concertseries Symphonica in Rosso. Following concerts in previous years by Dutch artists Marco Borsato and Paul de Leeuw and Lionel Richie, the global entertainment icon will be performing her worldwide hits together with the 40-piece Symphonica in Rosso-orchestra at the most spectacular music event in The Netherlands. The 4th edition of Symphonica in Rosso will commence on October 16 and 17 (a third night added - October 18) and promises to be, thanks to the collaboration of superstar Diana Ross, the highlight of the 2009' musical year. Tickets for Symhonica in Rosso will go on sale on May 18 at 10:00 am via symphonicainrosso.nl, topticketline.nl, Free Record Shop and 0900-3005000 (€ 0,45 p.m.). Diana Ross has an enormous number of international chart topping hits such as The Boss, Baby Love, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Chain Reaction, Why do Fools Fall in Love, Love Hangover and I'm Coming Out, besides the many Supremes-classics to which all generation continue to sing along to. Millions of fans have seen her unique performances voiced all over the globe. Talented entertainer Diana Ross now has specially chosen for a unique, once in a lifetime performance, this years' edition of Symphonica in Rosso. It will be a show to which one can dance, but in which romantic sing-along ballads also will be performed. Fans are expected from all over Europe at this international acknowledged event to share in the performance of one of the world's greatest concerts artists and vocalists. I must say I'm really looking forward to sharing this experience in the Netherlands. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Dutch audiences, they've always given me a wonderful welcome. We're planning to perform all those songs that the Dutch audience really want to hear, in what I see as being one of the biggest productions imaginable.! I can already feel the excitement!', Miss Ross said from the US. It is with great pride that Symphonica in Rosso welcomes the spirit and aura of Diana Ross to the most precious music event in the Netherlands. The first three editions of Symphonica in Rosso attracted more than 600.000 visitors during 19 sold-out evenings at the Gelredome-stadium. Symphonica in Rosso is a –according to worldwide standards- gigantic production. A team of more than 550 people work on these spectacular shows and at certain times, more than 100 people have been performing simultaneously on the enormous stage. Combining the biggest names in the music industry, a gigantic stage, special sound- and lightning effects, impressive videographics and the red theme, together with an audience dressed in red, make Symphonica in Rosso a yearly event not to be missed. The legendary Diana Ross is one of the most successful female artists of all-time, a musical treasure whose songs have, for decades, inspired romance, happiness and joy. She has had countless hit songs: in the USA alone, Diana Ross has scored 18 Billboard-number-one-hits with The Supremes, as a solo artist, and with classic duets such as Endless Love recorded with Lionel Richie. Diana Ross crosses musical borders with exhilarating ease - pop, disco, soul, and jazz, constantly reaching out to find new ways to inspire and enthral her audiences. Miss Ross has achieved a truly global iconic status: she has performed at historical events the world over, at the Olympics, at inaugurations for Presidents, during the Superbowl, at Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies. She has inspired many of the female artists who have followed her, such as Beyonce, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. As America's Kennedy Center observed when they honoured her in 2007: "Gladness has informed all of Diana Ross' body of work. This lady doesn't just sing the blues. She sings pure joy". It is a joy that is certain to be shared by countless of thousands of
people when Diana Ross joins Symphonica in Rosso this coming October. (Thanks to Jim Hoogendorp for the translation.) Published May 14, 2009 |

Yes, yet another compilation. The Definitive Collection focuses on the group's hit-making run from 1963, until Ross's departure from the group in 1969. It's not to be confused with the Motown/RCA Definitive Collection (with Diana Ross solo material) released a couple of years ago. This new collection was released September 23 on the Motown label. Full track listing: 1. Where Did Our Love Go Buy it from Amazon.com (click here, link will open in new window). (Published October 1, 2008) |

Rumours... I don't often report rumours here on Diana-web.com, but here's an exception to the rule. It is said that Diana is ready to release an all new album in 2009. Some fans speculate that it will have to do with the Motown 50th anniversary, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see (and hear)! It is also reported that Diana Ross and other (former/current) Motown stars will grace the December or January issue of Vanity Fair. And in 2009 we can expect the "ultimate" Motown documentary, produced by Berry Gordy and Suzanne de Passe, as well as many other Motown related compilations and happenings. Check back here for more on that as it happens. Also, dianaross.de fansite has listed a December 11 concert in Oslo, Norway. That would be the first public Diana concert in Scandinavia for several years, so let's hope it's for real this time! (Update: Turns out it's not a concert, but an appearance at the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony.) (Published September 22, 2008) |

The Billboard Hot Hundred of All Times Billboard Magazine is celebrating its 50th anniversary and have recently compiled the definitive list of the Hot 100's top 100 artists, based on all charting titles from August 1958 through July 2008. Diana Ross is represented both as a solo artist (at number 25) and as a part of The Supremes (at number 14)! Not only is both entries impressive on their own, but combined that makes her truly one of the most successful pop stars in the USA ever. And forever! There is also a Japanese low-budget DVD re-release of the movie The Wiz available (released August 7), once again containing nothing new. (Published September 10, 2008) |

Surrender "Surrender" is due for an expanded edition late this summer, according to Hip-O Select. "Surrender", originally released in 1971, included great songs written (for the most part) and produced by Ashford and Simpson. It was re-named "I'm Still Waiting" in the UK (and had that track added to the track listing) since that song was a number one hit at the time of the album release. The songs on this album covers a broad variety of feelings, such as love, desperation, resignation and happiness, and it's truly a classic Motown gem (and a personally favorite of mine)! This expanded edition will include bonus tracks, and I'll list them here as soon as I receive any news. This is great news for us Diana fans! Let's hope other albums will follow - "Diana Ross & The Supremes Sing and Perform 'Funny Girl'" would be great. An expanded edition of "Baby It's Me" would be most appreciated, and why not a CD release of "G.I.T. on Broadway"? Discuss this and more on the diana-web.com Message Board! (Published May 7, 2008) |

She received the honor for spreading "romance and joy throughout the world" with her voice. The four other recipients this year are Martin Scorsese, Brian Wilson, Steve Martin and Leon Fleisher. Their contributions to American culture won them a visit Sunday to the White House and recognition by President Bush, followed by an evening of celebration at the John F.
